Potluck Hawker Eatery opened on Main st. serving vibrant and modernized Malaysian street food. I tried their Happy Hour menu and their chicken wings may be the best in Vancouver! Line up early because they don’t take reservations

Potluck Fried Chicken Wings

($13) Best chicken wings in Vancouver! The chicken wings are coated in a tapioca/constarch batter which makes it very crispy and light. The wings are tossed with sugar and chilies which creates an addicting sweet, savoury and spicy bite.

Roti Canal

($7) Compared to other dishes, the roti was subpar. It didn’t have ‘wow’ factor or flakiness level compared to other roti canals from other Malaysian restaurants in Vancouver. I would try this dish but if you have a choice, order another serving of wings instead.

Salted Egg Yolk Fried Chicken Sando + Malaysian Shaker Fries

($13 + $3 for fries) Only offering during Happy Hour between 3PM-4:45PM, this chicken sando is a must get! You can smell the milk in the milk bread before you bite into the sandwich which makes the bite even more special. The chicken had a crispy batter and tender meat. The only downside is that the salted egg yolk flavour was hidden.

The Malaysian shaker fries is an ode to Hong Kong’s Shake Shake fries. It was coated in a lot of sugar but worked well if the savoury sandwich

Thai Milk Tea fused with Green Tea

($5) The drink is refreshing but the matcha overpowered Thai tea’s signature vanilla and spice flavours. You can definitely try it but I wouldn’t order it again.

Overall Thoughts

Potluck Hawker Eatery is an inviting and innovative restaurant that celebrates Malaysian cuisine and hawker street food. They focus on quality over quantity which is obvious in the choice of ingredients especially the Sando. I have yet to visit for dinner but I would come back.
