I found my grandma’s egg tart recipe and it only has 4 ingredients! Flakey, silky and full of sweet egg flavour, this egg tart is surprisingly easy to make and delicious too. If you are short on time, I highly recommend you use store-bought frozen tart shells.

Hong Kong Egg Tart Ingredients
You’ll need:
- 228g hot water
- 112g sugar
- 4 eggs
- Puffy pastry tarts

Hong Kong Egg Tart Instructions
- Combine hot water and sugar together until sugar is fully dissolved. Set aside.
- Whisk 4 eggs together
- Add water and sugar mixture to eggs. Whisk to combine
- Pour egg mixture through a sieve to remove air bubbles. I did it 3 times to remove all bubbles
- Add store bought puff pastry tart shells onto a baking tray
- Using a fork, poke a few holes at the bottom of the tart shell. This allows steam to escape when baking.
- Pour egg mixture into tart shells until 90% full
- Bake at 430F for 15 minutes and then 400F for 10 minutes. If you are using a cookie or pie tart crust, bake according to package (approx. 350F for 20-25 minutes)
