A Bread Affair recently launched kouign amann on its menu. Just in time for Spring, these buttery croissant-like pastries are currently available in four flavours: Earl Grey Milk Tea, Coconut Black Sesame, Nouveau Nutella and Traditional
Earl Grey Milk Tea

The Earl Grey Milk Tea is dolloped on top of the traditional kouign amann. I loved the rich and fragrant black tea taste.
Coconut Black Sesame

The Coconut flavour is the bright yellow “jam” or custard piped on top while the black sesame is sprinkled on top of the kouign amann.
Nouveau Nutella

The Nouveau Nutella (Chocolate Hazelnut) kouign amann was the most decadent of them all. There was a greater distribution of the hazelnut and chocolate flavour compared to the small dollops from the other flavours.
Traditional

It all comes down to the traditional kouign amann as it is the base of all the other flavours. It had an impressive caramelized top, flaky, croissant-like texture and a fluffy and layered bread interior. It was not very sweet because of the size-to-topping ratio.
Overall Thoughts
If you like a pastry that isn’t too flakey or buttery like a croissant and also has a fluffy bread-like texture, the kouign amann is for you. All of the baked goods at A Bread Affair have a relatively equal size, which is large compared to others. So as a customer, you can’t help but appreciate the value and price balance.

I was told there will be rotating flavours so check out A Bread Affair at Granville Island for the most updated information. Happy Spring!
